“Everything you want in a romance –
a sexy hero and heroine, flirting, family, fun and some steamy sex.
There's also a dose of drama and of course a perfectly mapped HEA.”
Annabelle Smith has never had it easy, but she's a survivor. So when her brother cleans out her bank account, she reluctantly turns to the one man she'd vowed to stay away from. Ethan Gelderman is a hot, sexy Texan, who has more numbers in his black book than most men have socks, and placing her trust in him is one of the hardest things she's ever had to do.
Lake Howling is home to Ethan's closest friends, and it's also where Annabelle "firebrand" Smith lives. Sassy, beautiful and pricklier than a cactus, she's never made it a secret that she wants nothing to do with him, but he sure as hell wants something to do with her. Lord knows, it’s going to be hard to earn her trust, but Ethan’s never backed down from a challenge yet, and he soon realizes trust is just the beginning of what he wants from Annabelle.

I liked this story, especially Ethan. He was charming and full of Texas swagger but inside he was a soft sweetie worth getting to know. I really liked Annabelle in book 1 but in this one she doesn't really seem like the same person. First of all she had so much pride it was ridiculous and irrational at times and I just wanted to shake the hell out of her! They had chemistry galore and that was fun to read and I'm glad that their antagonistic style of flirting didn't go on too long because it can be tiresome, especially with people their age. Overall I really enjoyed The Texan Meets His Match but I could have done with a different version of Annabelle because she was just...too much at times.
The story was fun and I LOVED all the playful fun between Ethan, Jack, Buster & Newman. So far, book 1 is my favorite but I'm looking forward to Buster's story

The Texan Meets His Match Lake Howling Book 2 edition by Wendy Vella Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
This second book in the Lake Howling series features Ethan Gelderman, a swaggering, rich Texan and best friends with Jake McBride (from the first Lake Howling book, "A Promise of Home." His nemesis, tough, smart-mouth Annabelle Smith, meets him toe to toe whenever he is in town. How these two hellcats could ever get along makes for a warm and rousing story. Adding in pride, temper and dysfunctional families with a major measure of excellent dialogue and Ms. Vella held me hostage. Great friends teasing and supporting each other kept the pace just right for another contemporary HEA worth reading.
Another great addition to this series. I fell in love with Ethan in the first book, and was so happy to see he'd be featured in book #2. And I'm happy to report that Wendy Vella didn't disappoint my expectations with this one, either. Once again she reeled me in within the very first chapter and I just couldn't seem to put it down until the very end. I love the fact that even though these to we so drawn to each other for years; yet Annabelle didn't fall at Ethan's feet like most other women had done in the past. I think that was part of the thrill for Ethan, though, to be honest. lol! She's fiesty, strong-willed, and both very witty and sassy at the same time. Although in this book, she's also shown us all a more lovable, and vulnerable side too. Ethan? Wow! He's the ultimate dream guy!!! He's charming, witty, and so darn lovable. And even though these two couldn't have been more different than night and day, they just seem to work. As they say..."The heart wants what it wants", right?
The dialogue between characters always seem so real and true to life. The cameraderie between friends, and the banner that ensues between them always makes me smile. I have always loved all the playful fun between Ethan, Jack, Buster & Newman, but the scene at the cabin had me ROTF with laughter.. I could just picture the look of torcher on Jack and Ethan's faces, at Newman and Buster's off key singing. Just too funny. And the "Great shot Tex" towards the end of the scene was hilarious, even in the face of danger.... these guys just slay me. This story had a great plot, a steamy hot romance, along with a bit of action, suspense and intrigue. What more could you want?
I'd rate Wendy Vella's series right up their along with great authors like Robyn Carr, Kathleen Brooks, Catherine Gayle, Melody Anne, Lori Foster, and Marie Force, SJ McCoy, and Katy Regenery. All of these authors all have the same thing in common. They all have really fantastic series involving quaint small town settings, with people you instantly come to know and love. And while every story revolves around one certain couple, we also get a chance to revisit with most of the other citizens from the past books. And with each book, we always get a story involving very complicated topic's....you know...things that people in real life have to deal with on a daily basis. And they do a real bang up job of making it feel so real to us readers, too. Their stories tend to stay with you long after the stories had ended, and I've just experienced that same thing with this author. So needless to say; but I've just added Wendy Vella to my favorite author list, because her writing reminds me so much of all the author's I've list up above. I'd even go so far as to rate the quality of her stories right up there with all of those other fantastic author's. Like it or not....she stuck with me now! lol!
Off to read the next installment in this series. Can't wait to see what happens next........
The Texan Meets His Match is a fun story though the pivot into romantic suspense seems to be way too low.
Annabelle Smith lives in Lake Howling, one of the small towns in Texas, and has her support network of friends, but with a mother who died young, and an alcoholic father, she ended up raising her baby brother by herself. When her baby brother fell to the dark side in Las Vegas, and fell into drug and gambling, she bailed him out twice and tried to get him to treatment. She just learned that her brother just cleaned out her bank account, money she saved up for a down payment on her own house, and maybe start a business someday. She's so angry, she refuses to take any calls from him, because he always somehow cajoles her into forgiving him. It was just then Ethan Gelderman came back to town. Ethan was the womanizer, the alpha whose little black book overflowing with girl's numbers. But the war had changed him. Ethan never wanted to follow in his father's footsteps, because his father had been grooming him since he's ten to take over the family business, and he resisted every way, including running off to join the military when he's 18. Now a self-made man with a fortune, he's back to attend a wedding. Seeing Annabelle brought feelings back, and Ethan will not resist a challenge. But Annabelle cannot let news of her misfortune spread among her circle of friends... She does not want her pity. When she found out her brother was in MUCH MUCH worse trouble than she ever suspected (the 25K he stole from her barely made a dent in what he owed to the mob) she had no choice but to accept Ethan's help...
The pivot into romantic suspense, IMHO, was way too abrupt, but actually plausible due to his army background. All in all, it's a good tale of admitting to faults so friends can help. The romance was actually nothing too special. It's about coming to terms with one's own limitations.
